Blake + Brittany Bear (Black Asiatic)
Ravenous ‘moon bears’ that prowl through the trees

Asiatic black bears are omnivores, which means they’ll eat just about anything—fruit, berries, grasses, seeds, nuts, invertebrates, honey, fish, birds—and even bamboo, just like pandas! They’re close relatives of the American black bear except they have wider and larger ears. Also called “Moon Bears,” Asiatic black bears have a distinctive white or cream "V" marking on their chests. Moon bears’ sharp claws help them climb tall forest trees to grab the juiciest berries and biggest nuts. Females don’t breed until they’re three or four years old, but when they do they give birth to one to four cubs at a time. The cubs are born blind and are relatively helpless. Moon bears that live in cold climates can hibernate for up to five months at a time; those that live in warmer regions sometimes don’t hibernate at all. Their lifespan typically extends twenty-five years.
